Nourishing Cashew Collagen Smoothie

I wouldn’t classify myself as a ‘smoothie’ person. It’s not my every day breakfast, nor is it even a typical weekly snack. So you won’t find a plethora of smoothie recipes on this site.

But. BUT!

When I find a good smoothie recipe it kinda becomes my jam for awhile, and lately this one has been on repeat. I don’t know if it’s the creaminess, or the chai-esque flavours that make it so damn delicious, but I’m going to go out on a limb and say this one might just be here to stay…

It all started with a 3 day stay at my bestie Janna’s home in Calgary last week. I’m well into my third trimester now and was able to escape to the city for a few days of fun with friends before being thrust into the milk-soaked, baby fest that is early postpartum. Unlike me, Janna is a smoothie person. She’s got all sorts of recipes up her sleeve and she drinks one for breakfast nearly every day of the week.

This is her recipe with a few of my own additions of course.

Enjoy!

Nourishing Cashew Collagen Smoothie

A creamy, nutrient-dense smoothie filled with flavours of cinnamon and cardamom.
Course: Breakfast, Post-Workout
Cuisine: General
Keyword: collagen, protein shake, smoothie
Servings: 1 large mason jar

Ingredients

  • 2 cups unsweetened vanilla almond milk any milk will work well in this recipe
  • 1 frozen banana
  • 2 pitted dates
  • 1 scoop collagen powder
  • 1/4 cup cashews
  • 1 cup ice
  • 1 tbsp hemp hearts
  • 1 tsp cinnamon
  • 1/4 tsp ground ginger
  • 1/4 tsp ground cardamom
  • 1/4 tsp ground turmeric

Instructions

  • If you do not have frozen bananas on hand, I highly recommend throwing some in the freezer and waiting to make this smoothie until you've got frozen ones ready to go. It really does make all the difference.
  • Toss all smoothie ingredients into your blender.
  • Pulse on high until completely combined and enjoy right away. This recipe fills a large mason jar or two small mason jar sized cups if you're the type of person who likes to share...I'm not! 🙂

3 Strength Exercises For Happy + Healthy Hips

Our hips are the base of our core. Many of the muscles that support our torso originate in our hip girdle, so it’s paramount to have a strong, supportive base of control in our hips. My favourite tool for healthy hips are what I call ‘smarter strength’ exercises. These are moves to engage varying muscles of the hips in a functional way.
